“A Town Called Victoria” presents TREES FROM SEEDS: Nurturing Intergenerational Dialogue, Reflection, and Healing. A Restorative Workshop for Difficult Times. With the conflict in Palestine and Israel and the rise of Islamophobia and all forms of hate, the filmmakers behind "A Town Called Victoria" invite you to take part in a guided workshop to unpack these difficult times in a safe and rejuvenating space.
Seven storytellers will share humorous, heartfelt, heartbreaking, and healing stories inspired by "comfort food."
Our storytellers include a Netflix dating show celebrity, a millennial comedian & filmmaker, a celebrated Austin playwright, a journalist turned mosaic artist, a writer & tarot card reader, a retired Navy Chief, and an 82-year old Vietnamese American grandmother.
The Austin Dragon Boat Festival returns to Lady Bird Lake-Festival Beach on Saturday April 29th after a 3 year hiatus. The Austin Dragon Boat Festival which begins with a traditional Lion Dance at the opening Ceremony kicks off at 10am and will include 250 and 500 meter races for corporate, community, student, club, visitor and breast cancer survivor teams from all over Austin, Dallas and Houston. In addition to the races, the Austin Festival will feature cultural performances, food trucks, vendors and a kid zone with a bounce house. Fun for all ages and free admission for spectators.
AAAFF supporters and friends are all invited to celebrate our Amplify Austin Kick-off on Monday, Feb. 27 at Hold Out Brewing.
We'll have some fun AAPI film-themed games, raffles, and appetizers for the crowd. AAAFF staff, board, and volunteers will be there to answer questions, talk about all things AA/PI film, and talk about the importance our work holds in the ecosystem of independent AA/PI film.
MANZANAR, DIVERTED: WHEN WATER BECOMES DUST is a story of solidarity by Ann Kaneko and Jin Yoo-Kim. In this documentary, three communities with shared histories of forced removal intersect to defend their land and water from Los Angeles. Filmmaker Ann Kaneko will be present for a conversation and Q&A following the screening. Doors open at 5:30pm with a reception including light bites and refreshments. Film screening begins at 6:30pm.
Austin Bouldering Project and Austin Food Adventures is hosting an Asian American Pacific Islander Fest showcasing local Austin restaurants, businesses, cooks, and artists on May 28th, 2022, which will be held at Austin Bouldering Project (979 Springdale Rd #150, Austin, TX 78702) from 11 A.M to 5 P.M. This event will be free and will be an indoor and outdoor event. Austin Bouldering Project will be offering all-day climbing passes for 5 dollars the day of the event!
Austin Asian American Film Festival & The New Philanthropists present Our Stories Within, an evening celebrating short films made by local Asian Americans in Austin. The event will begin with a showcase of short films by students of the Asian American Resource Center's recent filmmaking workshops.
Join us for our San Antonio, TX premiere of STORIES WITHIN, co-hosted by AAPIs For Justice & Artpace San Antonio. Followed by an AAPI Storytelling Workshop with STORIES WITHIN writers Lilli Hime & Jenny Tinghui Zhang
For this celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, Austin Beerworks and Kaiju Cut & Sew are re-launching Eastern Philosophy: A Kaiju Brew.
Local Austin food trucks @abwcantina, @thericeisright, & @sxsefoodco will be creating a pairing menu as well.
In partnership with Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce & benefitting Austin Asian American Film Festival, come out to celebrate AAPI heritage month, shop at AAPI Vendors at a market hosted by Austin Flea, and watch performances as well! Don’t forget your limited edition Kaiju x ABW merch too.
