NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
When Sumire is sexually assaulted in the apartment she shares with her longtime boyfriend, her outward response is of unexpected equanimity: she brushes off the concerns of those around her and even takes up her stalled writing career with renewed gusto. But Sumire’s hold on her own life grows ever more tenuous as notes of paranoia and apprehension creep into her relationships with her boyfriend, family, and colleagues. Sumire is finally driven to take stock and determine whether her unease is rooted in the trauma of her assault or something already present. Made under the auspices of renowned filmmaker Nobuhiro Suwa (2/Duo, Voices in the Wind) and co-starring Fusako Urabe (Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy), this graduation work for the Tokyo University of the Arts evokes the everyday dread of TUA professor Kiyoshi Kurosawa and provides an outstanding showcase for talents established and new. - Josh Martin, Feature Film Programmer
