AUSTIN PREMIERE followed by Q&A with filmmakers in attendance
The daughter of Cambodian immigrants in Los Angeles, Ashley Chea has risen to prep-school prominence as a teenage basketball phenom. As graduation approaches and college recruiters come knocking, Ashley faces challenges every bit as stressful as GPAs and test scores, and a debilitating knee injury brings her college hopes into question. Director Erica Tanamachi spent three years filming Ashley, her family, her teammates, and her always-supportive coach, crafting a multivalent portrait of youth with rare depth and sensitivity. - Josh Martin, Feature Film Programmer
